Smári McCarthy

Smári McCarthy is an Icelandic/Irish hacktivist. He is executive director of the International Modern Media Institute,<ref>IMMI Staff</ref> a co-founder and board member of the Icelandic Digital Freedoms Society (FSFÍ)<ref>FSFÍ</ref>. He is a founding member of the Icelandic Pirate Party,<ref>Grapevine: MP To Form Pirate Party</ref><ref>Grapevine: You Have it All Wrong</ref> and stood as their lead candidate in Iceland's 2013 parliamentary elections.<ref>Píratakafteinar í suðurkjördæmi</ref> He was the spokesperson and one of the organizers of the Icelandic Modern Media Initiative.<ref>New York Times: A Vision of Iceland as a Haven for Journalists</ref>
