After studying mathematics in US, Charles Eisenstein headed for Taiwan. As he describes in episode 532, his job as a translator gradually because steadily more unbearable to him. After a moment of sudden realisation that other people actually cared about the business he was just doing to make a living, he realised he had to take another path. Over the course of about a decade, he wrote Ascent of Humanity, a large book about the evolution of the human sense of self. This was the last book which Lyn Gerry read on the show. Eisenstein has made the full text of the book available online as well. He returned to USA where he is now a prominent advocate of the Gift Economy.
