In our first hour we hear an interview with Vivian Stockman about the practice and consequences of mountaintop removal mining, especially the recent flooding. East Kentucky and Southern West Virginia are being turned into a national sacrifice zone. Over 20-25% of some counties have been mined in this fashion and about 1000 miles of streams have been buried as a consequence, in violation of the clean water act. In our second hour, we hear from Pauleen Canterbury about her experiences of recent flooding. We then read from an August 12th New York Times article: US Fresh Water Stock Depleted by Warming about the prospect for water shortages in US.
