Emmanuelle Schick Garcia is a Spanish-Canadian writer and film director, born in the south of France to a Spanish mother and a Canadian father. At the age of three her family moved to Vancouver, Canada where she grew up. A world ranked swimmer at since the age of 15 she earned a swimming scholarship to University of California, Los Angeles where she received her B.A. in Art History. She was accepted into UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television in 2000, earning a M.F.A. in film production (directing), graduating from the program in 2 and a half years instead of the usual 4 years. Her films have earned critical acclaim. In 2009 she wrote, directed and coproduced (with Laila Tahhar) the feature length documentary The Idiot Cycle.
