Download Hour1 Download Hour2This week we investigate the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters). We start with a report back from the demonstrations in San Francisco against NAB, where protesters set up a counter demonstration. We hear evidence of the deliberate exclusion of labor issues from the agenda of the corporate media. We conclude with a report from Mbanna Kantako about how his radio station was shut down at gun point.
Our first hour this week start with sounds from the street and highlights from presentations and teach-ins about the NAB and Free Radio. Dick Meister tells of his experience as the first last and only labour reporter who presented on television. It has not been done since then, because of a decision by the bosses of corporate media. Jenine Jackson, host of a labour show in New York, talks about the history of N.A.B. and how their advertising driven model has worked against the interest of labor. In our second hour, about 20 minutes of highlights from a teach in on the political influence of the NAB, including Mark Lloyd. We conclude with a half an hour of Mbanna Kantako telling how two weeks ago, an armed raid was conducted against his radio station after 12 years of broadcasting.
